Yellowing on Fruit Tree Leaves?

If your fruit trees had yellow leaves this past year it might be an iron problem.

This is what a shortage of iron, or iron chlorosis, looks like on apple. You will see the same on other fruit trees with iron chlorosis; yellowing leaves with green veins on new growth.

Now (spring and very early summer) is the time to apply an iron fertilizer to the soil. Later the only way to correct this problem is to spray the leaves with an iron fertilizer. Two products to apply to the soil and wet it into the plant roots is EDDHA (best) or Ironite (good).

EDDHA iron chelate is the best product to use when treating plants of yellow leaves due to iron chlorosis. It works in all different soil types.
Another product to apply to the soil that is an iron fertilizer is Kerex. Its less expensive per pound than EDDHA. If your soil is low in pH (alkalinity) it will work 100% of the time. It is weak in soils with high alkalinity (pH).

Both products will work. If you have been diligent about caring for the soil and you know the soil around your plants is low in alkalinity then save money and apply KeRex. But if you are not sure then buy and use the EDDHA.

If its an iron problem, either product will work when applied in the spring or very early summer. It just depends on your soil pH which is better!
